Nothing is quite like motorcycling in North Dakota, however the state requires every rider to undergo motorcycle safety courses in order to stay safe while on the road.

Abate of North Dakota

Abate of North Dakota is a non-profit, social membership-driven organization that is dedicated to preserving motorcyclists’ freedom of choice and freedom of the road. It is their main goal to promote motorcycle safety, awareness, and training as well as to protect the rights of motorcyclists everywhere.

The ABATE of North Dakota is proud sponsor of the North Dakota Motorcycle Safety Program (NDMSP). They are also dedicated to provide students with a comprehensive safety program that promotes lifelong learning for motorcyclists of all ages and experience. The North Dakota Motorcycle Safety Program offers safety training and education. They are considered a total safety package because they also provide free safety materials, broadcast safety messages in print and electronic media and also have partnered with public and private entities to make motorcycling safer for everyone. They offer the Basic Rider Course, Experienced Rider Course and Scooter Course.

Basic Rider Course (BRC)

This course is ideal for new and beginner riders. The class includes 18 hours of lecture with 5 hours spent in the class and the remainder on the range. The course will be completed after 30 days and a completion card is given to successful graduates.

The Experienced Rider Course (ERC)

This course is intended for experienced and licensed riders. The course will provide them with skills to heighten their awareness and skill levels. Students must have a motorcycle license and should present a proof of insurance. They have to complete the 4.5 hours of lecture which consists of classroom and on-cycle training with a Motorcycle Safety Foundation Certified instructor. This course is offered from May through September.
