Pacific Safety Center
Chula Vista, California
The Pacific Safety Center (PSC) provides a comprehensive approach to motorcycle training, offering a California Motorcyclist Safety Program (CMSP) designed specifically for novice riders. They understand the importance of foundational skills and therefore their program includes both classroom and on-cycle instruction, teaching fundamental techniques required for operating a motorcycle and progressing to street riding. They offer a motorcycle class and a more in-depth motorcycle course, catering to riders of all experience levels. The program emphasizes motorcycle safety and aims to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to become confident and responsible motorcyclists. The CMSP MTC is mandatory for individuals under 21 years of age, but strongly recommended for those 21 and older seeking to obtain a motorcycle endorsement on their California driver’s license. The training spans approximately 16 hours, consisting of 6 hours of classroom instruction – either in-person or online – and 10 hours of hands-on practice on a motorcycle. During the on-cycle instruction, students will learn essential skills such as balancing, stabilizing a two-wheeled vehicle, understanding traffic laws and road signs, and developing effective braking and cornering techniques. They also learn how to handle various riding scenarios, including those in inclement weather. Participants are required to bring specific equipment to ensure their safety and comfort, including a full coverage or 3/4-coverage DOT-Compliant helmet (provided by PSC), eye protection, sturdy over-the-ankle boots, long-sleeved shirts or jackets, and heavyweight denim, khaki, or leather pants (without holes). The cost of the program is $425 for individuals over 21 years old and $395 for those under 21. They emphasize safe riding practices and are committed to providing a valuable learning experience to improve motorcycle safety. Completion of the course may also waive the riding skills test at the California DMV, and participants will receive a DL 389 certificate upon successful completion.
