Motorcycle License Requirements in Arizona
Basic Requirements for the License
The state of Arizona requires all residents who want to operate a motorcycle to apply for a motorcycle driver’s license. Applicants must be at least 15 years and seven months old. The licenses are issued by “Class” such as M for motorcycle, G for graduated, D for operator and A, B, C for commercial licenses. A Class M license will be added at the back of your current license.
To Obtain an Arizona Motorcycle Driver’s License
You can apply for a motorcycle instruction permit and license at any MVD office. However, in order to apply for a motorcycle driver’s license you must first apply for an instruction permit. New applicants who want to get a motorcycle instruction permit must complete the following requirements:
- Fill out the application for at your local MVD office.
- Study the Motorcycle Operator Manual and take the written test.
- Pay the application fee which, as of this writing, is $25.
Motorcycle Licenses in Arizona
The Class M license or endorsement is required to operate a motorcycle or any motor-driven cycle in the state of Arizona. Applicants who are under the age of 18 must have held an Arizona instruction permit for 6 months that is valid during the time of the Class M application.
Applicants should also have completed a motorcycle driver training or education program approved by MVD or a parent or guardian’s certification that the applicant has completed at least 30 hours of riding practice. Applicants holding an out-of-state motorcycle driver’s license or endorsement are exempted from the driver education and instruction permit requirements.
Class G Motorcycle License
Class G or graduated driver license with motorcycle endorsement is issued to applicants who are between 16 and 18 years of age and is valid to operate any vehicle that does not require a commercial license.
Applicants must have held both an Arizona graduated instruction permit and a motorcycle permit for at least 16 months.
Applicants must have completed both a graduated and motorcycle driver education program or proof that he/she have completed at least 30 hours of motorcycle riding practice. The holder of a graduated license is not required to get an operator license at age 18 but may choose to get one.
